Becaplermin (Regranex) is a recombinant human platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF-BB) in gel form for treating diabetic neuropathic ulcers.

Mechanism of Action

  • PDGF-BB activity — Stimulates chemotaxis and proliferation of monocytes, neutrophils, and fibroblasts
  • Granulation tissue — Promotes formation of new granulation tissue
  • Wound healing — Accelerates closure of chronic wounds

Dosing

Applied once daily to wound bed, covered with saline-moistened gauze. Calculate dose based on ulcer size.
