Anamorelin

Overview

Anamorelin is an oral growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHSR) agonist approved in Japan (Adlumiz) for treating cancer cachexia in non-small cell lung cancer.

Mechanism of Action

• GHSR-1a agonism — Stimulates GH release via ghrelin receptor
• Appetite stimulation — Increases hunger and caloric intake
• Lean mass preservation — Increases lean body mass in cachexia
• IGF-1 elevation — Raises insulin-like growth factor 1

Dosing

100mg orally once daily, taken on an empty stomach.

Status

Approved in Japan (2021). Phase 3 trials completed in US/EU for cancer cachexia. Not FDA-approved.
