Overview
Becaplermin (Regranex) is a recombinant human platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF-BB) in gel form for treating diabetic neuropathic ulcers.
Mechanism of Action
- PDGF-BB activity — Stimulates chemotaxis and proliferation of monocytes, neutrophils, and fibroblasts
- Granulation tissue — Promotes formation of new granulation tissue
- Wound healing — Accelerates closure of chronic wounds
- Angiogenesis — Promotes new blood vessel formation in wound bed
Dosing
Applied once daily to wound bed, covered with saline-moistened gauze. Calculate dose based on ulcer size.
